The Amherst Cinema Center is at 28 Amity St., Amherst, MA.On November 22, 2006 the curtain will rise on what is destined to become one of the Pioneer Valley's most vibrant cultural centers. Located in the heart of downtown Amherst, Massachusetts, the Amherst Cinema Arts Center will serve as a venue for mainstream and independent film, showcasing award-winning artists and emerging filmmakers from around the globe. The first films shown will be 'The Queen'and 'For Your Consideration.' 'The Queen' stars Helen Mirren as Queen Elizabeth II at the time of Princess Diana's death. 'For Your Consideration,' which pokes fun at Hollywood award shows, is directed by Christopher Guest, who made 'Best in Show' and 'A Mighty Wind.' The Amherst Cinema's three theaters- equipped with stadium seating, state-of-the-art sound, and 35mm and digital video projection capability- are sure to rival the very best in modern theatergoing experiences. Not just a place for sophisticated cinephiles, Amherst Cinema will also feature special programs for young movie lovers, and function as an incubator for creative collaborations between filmmakers, visual and performing artists, educational institutions and other arts organizations.
